After trading away Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, and Mark Redman, and after watching a videotape of Yabu's outing against the Yankees during an exhibition game from March of 2004, Athletics decided to pick up this veteran from Japan who won 1994 Central League's Rookie of the Year to fill up a spot in their 2005 pitching staff. Three years later, Yabu switched league but only moved 15 miles west to be a part of Giants' 2008 pitching staff. Pictured here is his 2005 Donruss Studio rookie card, with the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge showing behind, ironically connecting the two cities he pitched for in America.
