Created a stir when he asked the 12 NPB teams to not draft him so he can pursue a career in the MLB, Tazawa pitched a few months down in the farm system before being called up and immediately was thrown into the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry when he debuted at the new Yankee Stadium in extra inning which Hideki Matsui, one of his idol growing up was the first batter he faced.
